3 Most Dangerous Gadgets Ever
Life’s meant to be lived and we all like to party, but sometimes we like to party solo with a really cool toy. And when it comes to male interests, these really cool toys can generally decapitate you from a distance of 300 meters! What can we say; boys will be boys and nothing says ‘Party On!’ like blowing up half a city block with a home improvement kit. The problem, besides loss of limbs, is that the police never seem to appreciate that we’re just goofing around (they’re probably just sour because they’re still at work and they’re dying to get home to their toys) – so here’s a list of items you might want to be careful with if you’re living in suburbia.
The Chainsaw
You’ve got to love this item! Wiki defines it as “a portable mechanical saw, powered by electricity, compressed air, hydraulic power or most commonly a two-stroke engine – which is used in activities such as tree felling, limbing, bucking, pruning and occasionally cutting concrete”. Come on, it just screams I’M A MAN! Sadly, the party poopers at Forbes magazine recently published a list of some of the most dangerous power tools in the world and it was noted that our party tool accounts for around 39,000 emergency room visits per year – maybe those guys should have asked their moms for help?
Nail Guns
Now we’re talking – Hoedown! Nothing says ‘Terminator in the house’ like a nail gun wielding DIYer. These, essentially, framing tools make use of the power of compressed air to blast off a nail at, roughly, an amazing 120 pounds per square inch. This means that you can make pretty short work of those DIY projects, but would you believe that so many official bodies believe that nail guns should only be used by professionals? What a bunch of nancies! The last nail gun rap sheet I could locate ran between 2001 – 2005, and had 37 000 people a year sent to emergency rooms. With nearly seven billion people in the world today, does that really seem so bad?
Riding Lawnmowers
What kind of crazy person wants to walk behind their lawn mower? Think of the humiliation of walking a metal case containing a multiple, rotating blade system – far better to drive one around your suburban lawn while your children run about and cheer you on! Unfortunately, for some reason, kids don’t seem to think that the grass should get your attention while their limbs don’t and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a report back in ’99 that said, “75 people are killed and about 20,000 are injured on or near riding lawnmowers and garden tractors. One out of every five deaths involves a child”. Forbes has that number up in a recent report which stated that 37 000 people are now mauled each year with 95 deaths resulting.
All in all, power tools and gadgets can be awesome and they’re made to make your life easier but remember – with great power comes great responsibility, so don’t be a tool. We recommend having a look at the Dewalt power tools in Power tools Ireland for tools that are well made and safe.
