Crash

This whole market crash is serious business. The way it’s been explained to me, we are basically screwed in two years time. Recession, depression, nuclear war etc… It’s all happening and it’s happening soon. That means no more fancy Cape Town accommodation, vacations or even my nice, shiny flat! This is way too much to [...]

The Property bubble

Cape Town accommodation has always been the bright, shining light for property owners. Way back in 1998, it was predicated that the property market would one day burst, showering us cheap property prices and excessive wealth. This was sadly, not to be. As I speak now, a one million rand home in Parklands has just [...]

Walk the Line

Cape Town walking tours are quite possibly the best way to explore the city. Before I moved here I would have scoffed at the idea of traversing the city on foot. Jeez, have you ever taken a look at Cape Town’s layout? The whole of the Mother City basically clings to the mountain, which means [...]

Pre-Christmas moan

Cape town. Accommodation in Cape Town, Steven-style. The Four Seasons. My home and eventual hub of all roach activity in the Western Cape. I have lived in the city for close to five years now and I will never become used to these disgusting creatures. We [my girlfriend and I] begun renting this ‘lovely’ abode [...]

Spring chickens

Spring is most definitely in the air in Cape Town. When I got up this morning a small fragrant breeze was teasing my curtains and the crisp promise of a beautiful day was already hovering on the horizon. The perfect day to call in sick to work and set off on a Cape Town tour. [...]

Mykonos

I’m on my way now, out of Mykonos and on the road again to my Cape Town home. Judis mother surprised us both with an impromptu holiday during friday afternoon. This was no mere cheap Cape Town accomodation either er. Mykonos is roughly 110 kms outside of the city center and prides itself on being [...]

The Fast and the Furious

Yom Kippur is over. The fast which lasts 24 hours ended yesterday with a delicious bowl of beef chow mein. I had my doubts this year, as my hunger has grown in leaps and bounds since the last time. Yet I persevered. The weather is and was unfeasibly comfortable for Cape Town and the [...]

This is how Yontov begins

The preparation began at 5pm, yesterday afternoon. On the menu was an assortment of foods, none of them easy to prepare.
• Chopped liver
• Roast lamb
• spinach and feta pies
• Grilled marrows
• Roast veg and potatoes.
• Chicken soup
We began with the Chopped liver. It would be my first time preparing this traditional meal and I was completely unprepared for what it [...]

The Big Move

I very recently moved to the Mother City. Previously I was eking out a snug, cocoon-like existence in the vibrant student town of Stellenbosch at the very heart of the Winelands. Due to work related reasons I had to relocate and so began the search for suitable Cape Town accommodation.
I had a pretty good deal [...]
